El Caminito del Rey es una pasarela situada a lo largo de las escarpadas paredes de un estrecho desfiladero cerca de Ardales (Málaga). La pasarela estuvo parcialmente cerrada durante más de una década debido a su mal estado y escasa seguridad. Tras cuatro años de reparaciones y amplias renovaciones, ¡la pasarela reabrió este año! Conocida en el pasado como «la pasarela más peligrosa del mundo», ahora es mucho más segura. Esta pasarela tiene una longitud de casi 8 km, divididos en 4,8 km de accesos y 2,9 km de pasarelas de madera.
En cuanto a las pasarelas, el tramo más famoso del sendero, con una longitud de 2,9 km entre su entrada y su salida, comprende 1,5 km de pasarelas y 1,4 km de senderos forestales. El tiempo estimado para recorrerlo en su totalidad es de entre cuatro y cinco horas. La pasarela se construyó para facilitar el paso de los trabajadores de las centrales hidroeléctricas de las cataratas del Chorro y del Gaitanejo, permitir el transporte de materiales y facilitar la inspección y el mantenimiento del canal.
Su construcción comenzó en 1901 y finalizó en 1905. El rey Alfonso XIII la cruzó en 1921 con motivo de la inauguración de la presa del Conde del Guadalhorce, momento en el que adoptó su nombre actual. La pasarela tiene 1 metro de ancho y se eleva a más de 100 metros sobre el río. El sendero original era de hormigón y se apoyaba sobre raíles de acero sostenidos por pilares inclinados unos 45 grados en la pared rocosa.
